When I was a little girl, my grandmother had a jewelry box. This box was full-overflowing with long strands of beads. Some of them were brought from her homeland, they had a look so different from anything I had ever seen any other woman wear.
I think she was a little shy about the way her beads and necklaces looked. She may have felt that they were too evocative of her homeland, so she stored them away. On special occasions like Christmas my grandmother would come out adorned in her beautiful red faceted necklace. they shone like a thousand stars.
