A few years ago I was invited to a friends, friends birthday party. The "birthday girl" was someone who I knew from her eccentric way of dressing, she was always eye catching in exciting layers of beads, and she even made a slight jingling sound when walking. Connie, "the beaded lady" as strangers and friends called her lived up to her name's reputation right down to her back garden.
The birthday party was full of well wishers and naturally spilled out into her back yard. I was amazed to see that she had over the years decorated all the trees in the yard with hanging bead mobiles and sculptures. Most were of a very free form nature, some were in a partial state of disarray. All together they created an incredible feeling- as though we were in a magical garden with lights and shining colors far from the dull and somber city.
I always think of that beaded garden whenever I sit down to make something with my own beads, I wish I could recapture its beauty and essence. I wish I had a little bit of the adventurous spirit of The Beaded Lady but Connie was and ever will be the one and only "Beaded Lady"! Thanks Connie
